Cultural considerations for optimizing outcomes of interprofessional simulations
08 Nov 2022Interprofessional simulation settings can range from undergraduate foundational programs to practice enhancements and professional development with multidisciplinary team training. Educational contexts with diverse learners have known to have mixed success with learning outcomes when we deploy a “one size fits all” approach to simulation-based teaching and training. Through this hybrid workshop, we will discuss the factors of diversities in mixed cohorts, aligning a common theme and harmonizing mandatory objectives, accommodating individual variations, and understanding cultural contexts within team settings, and conflict resolution when a mess happens. The workshop is designed to appraise the chief facets of cultural considerations in simulation-based education. Special attention will be given to interprofessional contexts. The authors will present their experiences with homogeneous an heterogeneous cohorts and their similarities and differences in how those influences outcomes in Simulation-based education.

Disaster Simulation Exercises ( D-SimExs )
09 Nov 2022The exercise begins with a description of the event, communicated to participants in the same manner as would occur in a real event. It is done under time pressure. Realism is achieved through on-scene actions and decisions; simulated victims; rapid detection, reporting and response requirements; the use of actual equipment; and the deployment of resources and personnel. The realistic nature of an FSX can cause a challenge or alarm in the Healthcare system, so prior communication and awareness-raising is highly recommended. Full-scale exercises are the ultimate test of the functions of an emergency management plan. Because they are expensive and time-consuming, it is important that they are reserved for the highest priority hazards and functions.

Enhancing Safety II practice through Simulation integration
06 Nov 2022Patient safety is considered one of the urgent and complex challenging goals that encounter healthcare system, in which it has been defined by the Institute of Medicine as “the prevention of harm to patient” More recently, it has been recognized that Simulation Based Education (SBE) is fundamental to patient safety, as it has proved effective in proactive identification of latent errors in healthcare systems. The healthcare institutions’ system designs have been found to be responsible for the most critical factors that can influence and risk patient safety. Hence, integrating the SBE into system design will significantly enhance patient safety and safety II practice. In this workshop, we will explore the best utilization of SBE and how it can be integrated into the healthcare system and the avoidance of preventable harm to patients.

Getting started in qualitative research: Considerations in planning
08 Nov 2022Through didactic and discussion activities, participants will be guided through planning considerations required for qualitative research. Key ideas and concepts will be defined. Examples of published research questions will be used to illustrate the type of problems and issues suited to qualitative research. Participants will try out commonly used research methods and tips for obtaining high quality data offered. Considerations in human research ethics will be discussed as a key planning step. The workshop finishes with a guide to resources supporting qualitative research

How to Start Standardized Patient Program Workshop
08 Nov 2022How to Start Standardized Patient Program Workshop is designed to enhance realism in simulation scenarios while providing best practice techniques. The purpose of the standardized patient program is to allow students to practice interviews with patients, counseling patients and developing patient treatment, and performing clinical examination skills with people who are trained to portray scenarios derived from real clinical and challenges. The workshop will provide structured scenario, development and training realism at all learner levels. It can be used for clinical scenarios, and disaster drills.
